Terms of use

Plain-language terms for the Chalkline desktop application, version 2.0.0.

  1. Licence. Builds distributed by the Chalkline project may be used free of charge by teachers and schools for teaching, subject to these terms. Third-party components keep their own licences.
  2. No warranty. The software is provided “as is”. Mathematical results (solutions, integrals, sections, AI answers) can be wrong; the teacher is responsible for checking them before presenting them as correct.
  3. Your content. Boards you create belong to you. We do not receive them. You are responsible for your content and for having the right to use any images you insert.
  4. Online AI. If you enable it, requests are processed by the AI provider or school server you configured, under their terms. Do not enter secrets or other people’s personal data unless you are entitled to. AI output can be inaccurate or inappropriate — review it. Destructive AI actions require your confirmation.
  5. Acceptable use. Do not use the software to break the law, to attack others, or to circumvent its security controls.
  6. Support and updates. Best-effort, through the project’s issue tracker. Security fixes are issued for the latest 2.x release.
  7. Liability. To the extent permitted by law, the project is not liable for indirect or consequential damages or for loss of data. Keep your own backups of important boards.
  8. Changes. We may update these terms; continued use means acceptance. Material changes are announced in the changelog.
  9. Governing law. To be specified when the project is registered as an organisation.
